I have a collection of old medicine bottles. They say cool things like Dr Smith's tonic, volcanic liniment oil, castor oil, and crazy Latin names. I started collecting them in HS when I found a few on a trip with Mom. They usually were (and still are) cheap, rarely over $5. I bought a few at an auction, some at antique stores, flea markets, garage sales, until I had over 20 and I made myself stop. They look pretty around my bathroom and they have followed me from house to house for years. But they have always just sat on a shelf or windowsill with the sunshine highlighting the blues, greens and purples. Until today!
All I did was wrap them in some wire and add some fake flowers. Real flowers would be nice but I don't want to buy and water the real thing every day. Here are some pictures in case you want to try it too. I could see this being done with tons of things... old vases, spice jars, soda bottles, even soup cans. You could hang them on a wall, in a window, a fence outside,... I am so proud of myself!! If you decide to try something similar then add a comment and link below.
Supplies: $2.50 for wire and $2.00 for one long stem of flowers.
Wire cutters for the wire and to cut the flower stem into smaller pieces.
I chose 3 of my bottles that were a similar size and color.
Two cross pieces.
Wrapping the first of 2 pieces around the back to the front and then up the back again to a loop for hanging.
I used a wire made of several strands, which I think gave it a filigree sort of look.
And it didn't have to be perfectly straight. The twists and turns are beautiful!
I found that with this round one, it was important to criss-cross the wires across the bottom or it could slip out too easily. At first I gave it a large loop but for my needs I had to reduce it to a smaller loop for hanging.
And the finished product from the back ...
and the front.
