Our Story

We met when our parents were attending the same church. We were both in our senior year of college on separate sides of the country but visiting home for Thanksgiving. I had become good friends with Rich's sister Karen and a few of us got together during that Thanksgiving vacation to go to Medieval Times. I don't remember which knight won but I do remember a handsome guy who talked a lot and had a friendly smile. We saw a lot of each other that summer as Karen and I prepared to become roommates and we all headed off to the adult world of work and bills. When he called, it was my birthday and I had been in a car accident. He asked me if we could be more than friends. Who cares about the car?! Almost exactly a year after we met, he asked me to marry him. I am one lucky girl!

Rich began attending seminary and was quickly drawn to the chaplaincy and joined the Chaplain Candidate Program with the Air Force. His heart is drawn to evangelistic ministry where he can share Christ daily and as a former military kid it seemed like a good fit. After graduation Rich applied for active duty. The AF chaplaincy is intensely competitive so when we didn't get in, we decide that we had better look for somewhere else to serve. We even tried to move to the other side of the world (Okinawa) and that's when I started blogging. After several failed attempts to find a pastor position, our church very generously offered Rich a position as a part time assistant pastor. He never gave up hoping that someday he would be a chaplain. A few years later, here we are!

Add 3 kids and we have more than a few extraordinary moments in this ordinary life. We've learned a lot and God has changed us in so many ways. May every extraordinary moment ahead bring Him the honor and glory.

Here are a couple of posts that look back to our dating days
